More Twilight thoughts...

Even Angels Fall
So, I gave in to temptation and just started rereading the entire series... I'm now at the third book, Eclipse, and Bella is still torn between her friendship with Jacob and her love for Edward, what with the whole werewolves-and-vampires-are-mortal-enemies thing.

And as I was musing through what I love best about the book - the interaction between the characters (rather than the plot, Jewelle!) - I realised something.

Jacob would be a much better partner for *me* than Edward would be.

*GASPSHOCKHORROR!*

Maybe that's why I've been dreaming that Jacob loves me instead of Edward (Man I really want *that* dream!). I thought about it some more and remember Rosalie and Emmett's relationship. Those two are the most unlikely pair in history, yet they are obviously in love and made for each other. Even Rosalie said that Emmett was everything she needed if she knew herself well enough.

The reason why I think Jacob would be a better guy for me is because of how he just shines. Like Bella said, he radiates an aura of happiness and everyon around him is uplifted, he is so easy-going and carefree. As much as I'd desperately want someone like Edward to love me, in reality Jacob would be much better for me. I mean, if I was with Edward we'd spend half our time moping about something or another! Whereas Jacob would always cheer me up and be my personal sun.

*sigh* I realise I'm comparing two fictional characters, but still!

Your result for Reincarnation Placement Exam...

Atlantis

47% Intrigue, 59% Civilization, 60% Humanity, 52% Urbanization.

Score! The civilization of Atlantis! You must have done something right. You've been assigned to a civilization so idyllic, it's been relegated to legend. The grass is green, the weather is serene, the neighbors are clean. Your culture is technologically advanced at a time when the world is still young and fresh. There are lots of interesting things to do, and good people to enjoy life with. The only downside is that it's not very complicated, none of that messy trouble arising from chaos, intrigue and unnecessary adventure. You know... it's a lot like Switzerland, only... more awesome.

Life doesn't get much better than this!

We recommend you invest in a life vest. You know, just in case.

When you think you finally know where you stand,
The world gets taken out from under your feet again...

-Doris

Okay, I have been going crazy over this new books series by Stephenie Meyer called Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. I can already hear DMJewelle clucking her tongue and shaking her head - of course, another star-crossed love story. So typical of me right??? This obsession has taken over my world so much so that reading other books is impossible for me, and I see pieces of the story everywhere I look. The only way I can function is by thinking "Bella does ordinary things too, like cooking". pathetic, I know.

I've also started writing bits and pieces of poetry and songs. Hopefully one day it will be enough to record into a proper song. Here is a bit that I thought Edward might write:

Sleep while you are human,
Dream of me while you can...

*sigh* I am madly in love to an imaginary man...

Your result for Which Changeling Are You?...

Wizened

"Fool me once, my bad. Fool me twice, you're dead."

Look to the shoe it is too small!

there's blood from cutting her foot to fit.

Prince, Prince, Look again!

She can't stand, she can only sit!

There was once on a time, a Fae princess who was extremely proud, and thought herself, extremely clever. If a wooer came she gave him some riddle to guess, and if he could not find it out, he was sent to her work shop to sew beautiful clothing for her. She let it be made known also that whosoever solved her riddle should marry her and have the riches of the Court.

At length three tailors fell in with each other, the two eldest of whom prized themselves great artists of tapestry. The third was a little useless but clever and thought he may have luck.

They all three lined themselves up to the princess, claiming the wisest of them had understandings so fine – it could be threaded in a needle. The Fae Princess smiled.

“I have two kinds of hair on my head, what color is it?”

“If that is all,” said the first, “it must be black and white; like cloth that is called pepper and salt.” The princess shook her head and waited for the second.

“If not black and white, then its brown and red, like my father’s coat.”

“Another slave for my closet,” mocked the princess, “let the third answer, for I see he knows for certain.”

The little tailor stepped forth boldly and said, “The Princess is Fae, she has a silver and a golden hair on her head, those are the two different colors.” The Fae turned white as sheets and nearly fell with terror, she had firmly believed that no man on earth could discover it. When her pride returned she said, “Thou hast not won me yet by that; there is still something else that though must do. Below in a stable is a troll with which though shalt pass the night, and when I get up in the morning if thou art still alive, thou shalt marry me.”

She expected, however; she should thus be rid of the tailor, for the troll had never left any one alive who had fallen into its clutches.

When evening came the tailor was taken to the cages. The troll set upon the little fellow with a welcome of its claws: “Softly, softly,” said the tailor, “I will soon make thee quiet.” Without a care in the world he revealed some nuts and cracked them and ate them. The troll was seized with a desire for some as well. The tailor felt and handed him a handful of pebbles. Try as he might the troll couldn’t crack the nut.

The tailor thus began to amuse himself on a violin. When the troll heard the music, it too wanted to learn. The tailor smiled at the beast, “Light enough for a child. Look with the left I lay my fingers and with the right I stroke it with the bow, merrily it sings a song.”

“If thou hast a talent for it I’ll give you lessons, but you’re claws are terribly long, I must cut them.” Then the tailor fashioned a thumbscrew upon the trolls hands and left it on tight and snug. “Now you must wait till I come with scissors.”

When the Fae Princess heard the troll roaring fearfully in the night, she believed nothing else but that the tailor was dead. But in the morning she realized with dread, she must fulfill her promise, made in front of the entire Court. She, who thought herself so wise, had been had by someone who knew not his wisdom.

Wizened are practical and talented. They are products of a capricious and giving faerie. These Fae brought help and wealth to the needy individual. However; when offended they remind us of our place. The Wizened were kidnapped by such faeries and have endured this strange malice. They were trained by unreliable faerie taskmasters and have become tireless workers carrying tireless spite. Theirs is a lesson in Desire and Pride.

Their escape from the faerie realm was fought using cunning and viciousness. They were bribed, chained and ensorcelled. They were threatened, cajoled and tricked. They escaped through a labyrinth of tasks which required multiple attempts before they broke free.

Many wizened make a point of rising above their Pride and Desires if only because it got them there in the first place.

Ok, seeing as I still lack Adobe photoshop (or some sort of photo editing tool), I have no choice but to upload my pics onto Facebook. Here is my Tom Yum album.

(Gee that took me a while to figure out, the linky thing).

Here is the Mount Warning album. Enjoy!

Even Angels Fall
Things are starting to settle down now from the manic pace of last week.

Thursday I made successful tom yum noodles for the first time, hooray! I took some photos but will have to wait until I get some sort of photo editing program on my PC, which was wiped clean. Jerem, Dana, Qaasim and I then headed out to Pac Fair for some delicious Krispy Kreme, where I got to have my blueberry donut, yay!!

Friday I hung out with Yulia and we walked around the Surfer's Market before discovering a delicious (and CHEAP!) Japanese place in Broadbeach. It was so popular that we were chased out soon after our meal because other people had reserved the table for that time!

Saturday I climbed a mountain, yeah!!! Well, actually in a group of eight (of which I was the shortest), I was the last one to the top and the last one to the bottom. But I got there in the end, hooray! Again, pictures to follow. However, I was so pooped that I fell asleep all the way home (it was Mount Warning in NSW, and was about an hour's drive from gold coast) and fell asleep again when I got home at 5pm. I didn't wake up until 8.30pm, which meant that I was LATE for my girls night' out!!! Janice, Dana and co had dinner and went to Club 21 where I caught up with them. Four off the girls piked less than an hour later, leaving me and Janice by ourselves! So much for a girl's night. Furthermore, I made the fatal mistake of messaging Rohan, which meant that I missed him the rest of the night and couldn't enjoy myself.

Sunday Katie and I arranged and impromptu yum cha. Due to my exertions and late nights I was so tired that I slept through my alarm and arrived an hour later than I said I would, but it all worked out anyway because Katie was an hour late from church! We queued for about another hour at Landmark, a very popular yum cha restaurant and proceeded to pig out. We washed it down with The Forbidden Kingdom, which is an excellent film that I would highly recommend! Now just relaxing at home, watching tv.

So, it should be a pretty chilled out week for me next week. I've got Capoeira and I also need to get a wetsuit, seeing as the weather is warming up. Oh, and I'm also planning to get a remedial massage, as my legs are killing me!

What's been happening?

Even Angels Fall
Things have been going remarkably well ever since I returned to GC. My sleeping pattern has been a bit out of whack (ok, more like seriously deranged), but things have been going well otherwise.

Let's see...Things of note:

Went to Asian dance party with Katie in Brisbane last Friday. Partied til 3 am in the morning, when we proceeded to get McDonalds because we were both so hyped up from all the caffeine we took to stay awake. Met some Brisbane Lions AFL players who were very drunk and extremely young. I made out with a 19 year old! O_o Stayed over at Katie's and had brunch before returning to GC.

Sunday I was supposed to meet another young rugby player just to watch DVDs, but got stood up. Sent him a text saying that I like him but didn't like people who wasted my time. His reply was he isn't a good guy to get into a relationship with, and I said that I wasn't interested in a relationship... (hahahaha)

Monday was my independent hearing, which went on for FOUR hours! I basically got interrogated about my life. I lied a little bit, and in hindsight could've lied a lot more, but I'll just have to wait and see how things turn out.

Incredibly, Tuesday I slept from midnight to 5 pm the next evening! That was when my schedule started going haywire. I went to fire twirling class on Tuesday evening, which was fun but kinda pricey for what it was. (Outdoors, in the dark). Andrej came over and got my computer up and running again, which is really sweet!

Rohan was meant to come over and drop off my things Wednesday. He got as far as ringing me at 9am saying that he was coming over then ringing back 5 minutes later saying that he couldn't make it. Deja vu? (shakes head) Anyway, I went back to sleep until 3, where I had my financial advisor meeting to fix up my remserv account. After that, I went to my first capoeira class in GC. It was really fun, but man I am so unfit. It was a small group, and wasn't as huggy-kissy as Soul capoeira, but people were still nice. I didn't play in the roda tho, and no one invited me to either. At the end of the class, Mestre Luiz had already decided on a nickname for me, which I was stoked about! In Adelaide you only got a nickname once you've graded, and because Chan isn't a Mestre they had to go to Brazil to grade and get a nickname. Mine is Kar-Dee-Al (pronounced), although in writing it looks really stupid - Cardeal.

Anyway, I went over to Rohan's to pick up my stuff. I was civil but not too friendly, and I think he felt very awkward around me. I declined his offer of coffee and pretty much went in, took my stuff and got out. No sense in hanging around and being nice, after all that's happened.

So now it's 3 am, I slept at midnight and woke up again. Another action packed day tomorrow though - psychologist and GP meeting in the morning, and hanging out with Jerem +/- Dana in the evening. I hope to get some Krispy Kreme, I'm craving one of their delicious blueberry donuts right now.

Things I want to do

In no particular order

These are some of the things I want to do, hopefully when I get back to Gold Coast. All my friends always say that you have to love yourself first before anyone else can love you, and I want to be that person.

1. Start running (really tough one!)
2. Beginner's fire-twirling
3. ? Dance classes

I always figured it would be a good way to meet people and make some new friends. Will add more when I think of some!

I wish a very sad goodbye to the boy that I loved (and trying to not love still).

Hopefully I can get over it while I'm away.

Sorry if I've missed a lot and not posted back to any of your entries, it wasn't intentional! And now I have to go clear my inbox of 1465 of unread mail..

So you think you can dance!

I just came back from my very first modern jive class, and I LOVED IT!!! It was so much fun (even if I do have two left feet) and we danced to modern music, which was great. There were some cute guys and some old guys, and the girls had to rotate around. As usual, there are too many girls and not enough guys, so I had to just stand around a few times.

I got really dizzy because a lot of the moves (3 out of 4) required the girls to spin, so by the end of a few rounds I was a bit unsteady! No one let me fall though, which was great. I actually turned up by myself, thinking that Liz and Colin were going to be there, but they both piked. Andrej showed up tho, and he is a great dancer! We stayed even for the intermediate class and danced for 3 hours all up. That and my gym PT last night... whew! I just love moving and using my body. I'm going to sleep well tonight!

Oh, and there's a free dance party on Saturday night at Broadbeach. Guess who's going???? =)

Pavlova - It's Aussie!

Actually, Australians say they invented Pavlova but New Zealanders dispute this and say that they've invented it.

I haven't been cooking and baking that much, so I haven't had much food porn to post. However, this is a gorgeous pic of my first ever pavlova, which turned out beautifully! I still can't whip cream though, it still turns out lumpy but I managed to hide it with lots of pretty fruit. I forgot to take photos of the main course, which was a Mexican fiesta - tacos, chilli con carne, colourful corn salad and chihuahua rice! It was for a dinner party that I had several weeks ago, which went quite well.

Anyway, on to the photo!

I never thought that there would be a creature more hateful and useless on the eco-system than blood sucking mosquitoes... After a day on the beautiful sandy beaches on the Gold Coast, I stand corrected.

I present to you, the most evil creature on earth - MIDGES!

I was viciously attacked by them and they itch like hell. Look at what they did to me!

It gets worse, too....

I look like I have the bubonic plague...

Things have been hectic lately. I've been taking on extra shifts to try and cover the costs of my expensive apartment... $350 a week to pay by oneself is very taxing!

I've got some really exciting news! ONe of my lyrics is being made into a song, hurrah! Sure I have to pay a musician studio guy to do it, but it's one of those dreams-come-true kind of thing that you never thought would happen. I hope I like it, he's going to make a draft next week and let me hear the rough version to see if I want to go ahead with the real deal.

In other more exciting news, there's a boy! He asked me out! Woohoo! It sure does boosts my self esteem after the shattering breakup. He's really cute - blond hair, blue eyes, just a smidge taller than me. It's been one roller coaster ride from another - I'm just sitting back and enjoying the delicious feeling of being simply happy.

My first ward call

  • Mar. 6th, 2008 at 9:00 PM
Even Angels Fall
My first ward call was both exciting and scary.

Highlight:
I put in my first successful nasogastric tube in a catatonic patient who wasn't swallowing for me! In fact, I was a bit too successful and inserted it all the way to the duodenum and had to pull it back 5 cm. But still, it worked!

Lowlight:
My first patient death.

She was an elderly lady with a Not For Resus order, and I was called to see her because her breathing was very laboured and very wet. I told the nurse to cut down the subcutaneous fluids, but later the nurse came back and said she turned it off, because this lady was drowning. I wrote up some hyosine but by the time we went to check on her, she took her last gasp, and died.

I had to feel her already cold and clammy hand for a pulse, and listen to her heart and lungs. Nothing. And when I opened her eyes, they were already cloudy like the ones we got down in the anatomy lab.

I was quite shaken by the experience and went down to ED to mope for a while, where there were other doctors. Oh, and I was also the only doctor on the medical and surgical wards so I had to manage it all. I had to call the daughter to break the bad news and also fill out a life extinct form.

So yeah, exhilarating and sad night all in one!

I know this is a pretty crappy picture but this is one of the beautiful sights that greeted me over my balcony one rainy day. I have never even seen a full rainbow from horizon to horizon, and this one was massive with a faint rainbow shadow.
